In his final years, the much-missed screen legend Dharmendra had discovered the poet in himself. And he vented his poetic thoughts constantly on paper and to close friends and family.

This writer had the privilege of hearing Dharam ji recite some of his robust but gentle lines.
And now Dharam ji’s dream project, an anthology of his poems, will be published. The project will be undertaken by Sunny and the Deols and Hema Malini and her daughters.
Speaking on how precious his poetry was for him, Dharmendra had once shared with this writer, “It started as a hobby…you know, penning down lines as they came to me in my solitary moments, and then it grew into something stronger, far more passionate. Writing poetry has become my junoon, my nasha.”
Dharam ji went on tell me how Lata ji loved his poems, “When we speak, she insists I recite my lines.”
During Dharam ji’s lifetime, his sons Sunny and Bobby, and daughters Esha and Ahana insisted that he publish his poems. But Dharam ji always felt he had many more lines of poems in his mind and heart to write before he could think of publishing them.
