Last week saw around Rs 45 crores coming in at the box office with Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar bringing in the most numbers (over Rs 37 crores). Kabzaa (Hindi) and Zwigato had released as well while Pathaan was still in the running, all of which contributed to around Rs 8 crores. Meanwhile it was the Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor starrer rom-com family drama and Rani Mukerji’s courtroom drama that fetched most footfalls.
Let’s talk about Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar first. The film saw very good jump on Saturday and then sustained well on Sunday before having a fair run from Monday to Thursday which was on the expected lines. Of course, a couple of crores more would have allowed it to be on the right side of Rs 120 crores mark but for now it stands at Rs 119.24 crores after Thursday numbers came to Rs 2 crores*. The film should surpass Rs 5 crores mark again over the weekend and by the close of third week would find itself in Rs 127-128 crores range.
As for Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway, after collecting Rs 6.42 crores over the weekend, it collected a little over Rs 4 crores during the weekdays as well to end its first week at Rs 10.51 crores. This is a fair number for the film, more so since collections stayed stable right through the weekdays with Thursday coming to Rs 0.82 crore. The good part is that it hasn’t fallen much when compared to the first day of Rs 1.27 crores and that’s a rare scenario in current times. The film should now be aiming to have not more than 30%-40% fall in the second week as that would set it up for a lifetime of over Rs 20 crores, which would be decent enough for a set-up of this scale and size.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources
