The Hichki director shared a sweet note on his Instagram story stating, “This boy’s passion and dedication is truly unmatched. They say a fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree, which is truly the case for Junaid. He’s got his work ethics from his father for sure, and acting capabilities too. Happy birthday Junaid wish you loads of love and happiness and memorable role and films always ! Have the best day and year ever.”

The logline reads, “The year 1862 paints a vivid picture of a nation in flux. With only three universities established and the embers of the Sepoy Mutiny still glowing, India was grappling with change. Against this backdrop, Mulji, a young man studying at Elphinstone College in Mumbai, emerged as a champion for the marginalized. Inspired by his mentor, scholar-leader Dadabhai Naoroji, Mulji championed social reform and women’s rights. His unwavering commitment to justice led him to confront a powerful figure in the infamous Maharaj Libel Case. The specifics of the case remain under wraps, but the film hints at allegations of misconduct against this prominent individual. This high-profile case ignited public scrutiny, making it a landmark legal battle that continues to resonate today.”

Fast forward to 2024, Maharaj resurrects this forgotten story, bringing Mulji’s bravery to life for a modern audience. The film marks the debut of Junaid Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan. Khan takes on the mantle of Mulji, showcasing his determination to challenge the established order.

Directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, the movie boasts a talented cast alongside Khan. Actor Jaideep Ahlawat brings his experience to the screen, while rising stars Shalini Pandey and Sharvari Wagh (in a special appearance) round out the ensemble.

The tagline, “After 162 years, audiences will finally witness the strength of one man’s resolve to challenge the status quo,” perfectly encapsulates the essence of the movie. Mulji’s story, buried for over a century, is finally getting its due.

Produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner of YRF Entertainment, Maharaj is poised to be a compelling watch.
