Actor Shahid Kapoor has spoken candidly about the growing culture of online trolling and how public figures must navigate constant scrutiny. Appearing on The Right Angle with Sonal Kalra Season 3, the actor reflected on maintaining emotional balance while being open to public opinion.
Calling the journey “difficult,” Shahid said actors often walk a fine line between vulnerability and self-preservation. “It’s a difficult journey because you have to open up, but also be mindful of what and how much you allow to sit in your system,” he shared. He questioned the pressure to constantly please audiences, adding, “Do you want to wake every morning and make everyone happy or yourself happy?” The actor stressed that creative satisfaction should come from within rather than from online validation. “You need to reiterate to yourself, did I have a good time? Did it help me grow? Was it a true representation of my creative energy?” he said, suggesting that self-assessment matters more than trending opinions.
Addressing anonymous criticism, Shahid remarked that social media has made it easier for people to cross boundaries. “Aapke bolne ki aukaat honi chahiye, tabhi mooh kholna chahiye… pehle aap dekho ki aap kitne paani mein ho, phir baat karo,” he said, explaining that he was raised to believe one should evaluate their own standing before criticising others. At the same time, he acknowledged the importance of constructive feedback but emphasised staying grounded and positive.
On the work front, Shahid was recently seen in Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’ Romeo alongside Triptii Dimri, Tamannaah Bhatia and Avinash Tiwary. He is next set to appear in Homi Adajania’s Cocktail 2 with Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon later this year.
