Actor Amitabh Bachchan broke from his decades-old Sunday ritual this week, informing fans that he would not step out of his Mumbai residence, Jalsa, to greet them on February 22. The weekly tradition, which sees hundreds gather outside his home for a glimpse of the actor, has long been considered one of Bollywood’s most enduring fan engagements.

Sharing the update on his Tumblr blog on Saturday, Bachchan explained his absence in a brief note. “The work continues with some vigour ..but .. a but appears .. and the day ends for me .. to take in the break of a Sunday .. Sunday here .. but none at the Jalsa Gate, regrettably …. so save the energy of travel and shall meet up soon ..till then .. thoughts and thinking and even more in the silence of thought,” he wrote.
While the actor did not cite a specific reason, his message suggested that ongoing work commitments had prompted him to take a break. He reassured admirers that the pause was temporary and encouraged them to conserve their energy, promising to meet them again soon.
For years, Bachchan’s Sunday appearances outside Jalsa have drawn crowds regardless of weather conditions or his professional schedule. The ritual has evolved into an emotional connection between the star and his supporters, with the actor often sharing photographs and reflections from these interactions on his personal blog.
On the professional front, Bachchan was last seen in Vettaiyan alongside Rajinikanth. He is set to appear next in the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, which also stars Prabhas and Kamal Haasan. He will also feature in the courtroom drama Section 84. Further details about his upcoming projects have not yet been announced.
