Akshay Kumar recently said that work on the hugely awaited Hera Pheri 3 is currently stopped due to various reasons. In a recent exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, veteran lyricist Sameer Anjaan, who wrote songs for the first two films of the Hera Pheri franchise, also expressed doubts on whether the film is going ahead.

When asked about Hera Pheri 3, Sameer said, “Don’t know if it will be made. We don’t know what will happen. There is no clear cut picture. Also, there is no guarantee if I will write for it. I wrote for the first version of Bhool Bhulaiyaa but not for the second version. Then I had to write for the third version. This goes on. It is not up to me if I will get a certain movie. If I am offered, then I will think what to write.”

Sameer also said that when the first film Hera Pheri (2000) was narrated to him, he felt he needed to write certain kind of fun songs. “I understood that I will need to do some masti in it. Hence, I wrote songs like ‘Dene Wala Jab Bhi Deta’ and ‘Main Ladki Pon Pon Pon’. The songs needed to reflect comedy.”

The lyricist revealed that the song ‘Ae Meri Zohra Jabeen’ in Phir Hera Pheri (2006) was inspired from the old song of the same name from Yash Chopra’s classic Waqt and it was composer Himesh Reshammiya’s suggestion to try something on those lines. “Himesh has this habit that whenever he likes a word, he brings it to me,” said Sameer. “He loves the old song ‘Ae Meri Zohra Jabeen’ so much that he said we should make a song with the words ‘Zohra Jabeen’. He has made a lot of songs with such words like ‘Janaab-e-Ali’.”

As far as ‘Mujhko Yaad Sataye Teri’ from the same film is concerned, Sameer said, “In those days, there was a change going on in people’s language. Children were speaking Hindi, English, Marathi, Gujarati, etc. So, we felt we should come up with a song which has a mixture of a lot of languages.”

When asked what all he thinks while creating songs for films of different genres, Sameer said, “I don’t think anything. The story compels me to think in a certain way. We are given one character. When I was writing Coolie No. 1, I became a coolie. When I was writing Aashiqui, I became an aashiq (lover). When I was writing Saajan, I became a poet. You will start thinking about the character that is in front of you. You won’t write things related to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai while writing for a film like Hera Pheri. You can’t write ‘Chandan Sa Badan, Chanchal Chitvan’ in a film like Coolie No. 1.”

Hera Pheri franchise stars Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty in pivotal roles. While the first film was directed by Priyadarshan, the second was helmed by the late Neeraj Vora. Priyadarshan has been announced as the director of Hera Pheri 3.
