Aamir Khan has opened up about how he processes film failures and audience rejection, sharing that acceptance is the first and most important step whenever a project does not perform as expected.

Aamir Khan speaks on handling unsuccessful films after Happy Patel, Ek Din debacle: “It’s very important to accept what has happened”

In a recent interaction with Variety India, the actor spoke candidly about dealing with films that fail to connect with viewers. Reflecting on his approach, Aamir said, “The first thing I do is I accept it. It’s very important to accept what has happened. I feel when a film doesn’t work, the bottom line is simple — that it didn’t work.”

The actor further explained that he treats every underperforming film like a creative puzzle that needs to be understood rather than avoided. “It’s like solving a puzzle,” he shared. “You’re trying to figure it out.”

According to Aamir, one of the key exercises he follows with his directors before a film’s release is evaluating whether the team has successfully achieved the original creative vision. “One of the things I do with my directors very often is I discuss the film with them before the release. Did we end up making what we set out to make? How successful do we think we are before the release? And that’s a very important discussion to have because then you’re able to judge the film creatively,” he added.

The actor’s comments come at a time when conversations around theatrical performance and changing audience preferences have become increasingly significant within the Hindi film industry.

During another recent interaction with Screen, Aamir also reflected on how film marketing has transformed drastically over the years, especially after the rise of social media and digital platforms. Comparing today’s promotional landscape with the time when his debut film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak released, the actor admitted that he often finds the current ecosystem difficult to navigate. “I just feel that things have changed so much over the years, especially with social media coming in. I’m someone who doesn’t understand this world at all. I’m totally alien, you know, I don’t belong to this world,” Aamir said.

On the professional front, Aamir Khan’s last theatrical release was Sitaare Zameen Par, which emerged as a commercial success. However, some of the actor’s recent production ventures, including Happy Patel Khatarnaak Jasoos and Ek Din, did not perform strongly at the box office.
