EXCLUSIVE: Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar star Ranbir Kapoor on Pritam saving the best music for him: ‘He recognizes that I work hard on my songs’

During a group interaction, Bollywood Hungama asked Ranbir Kapoor about this long-lasting collaboration between him and Pritam and how the composer saves the best music for him. “I guess lucky. I got lucky that I got that kind of music. I think somewhere Pritam also recognizes the fact that probably I work hard on my songs. I do films which have songs which make an impact. I love the process of music. I love going into Pritam dada’s studio, and sitting with him during his tunes. I love when directors are setting the choreography. I like participating in it. So I’ve always enjoyed the music-making process. For me, it is as important as being a very big scene in the film. I think the songs are as important. I learned that from my own family members Shammi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Raj Kapoor, my father and my cousins, they’ve all had such good songs in their careers might even Kareena and Karisma, my mother also. So I understand the value and that’s why it’s an element in my career that I don’t want to leave.”

The music of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is receiving love from all corners. From ‘Tere Pyaar Mein’, ‘Pyaar Hota Kayi Baar Hain’, ‘Show Me The Thumka’ among others, the movie has seven full-fledged songs and that’s conviction. During the same interview when asked how music has evolved since his debut in Saawariya, the actor added, “I thought of things that I felt in my career, I can only speak for myself, music has really helped me. Music has given me a lot of recognition. Music has given me a lot of love. I feel ill especially today with the new directors, I see this that people are finding it very hard to see the character sing and dance on screen. So I got very lucky when I met Luv Ranjan who believes in music himself. He’s a big fan of his actors singing songs. I think this because songs are such a big part of our Indian culture. It’s the only industry in the world where we celebrate our songs. Our films are not one genre, its multi-genre. We have so much that you’re giving an audience in just one film. I think those are the films which really stayed because when we try and get too progressive and try and get too new age, and try and make one genre films, I guess people find that boring. Those films are probably meant for OTT or smaller audiences. But when you’re trying to make a large audience film for a country like India, or worldwide, you have all these elements because that’s what we love as an audience. We want to celebrate all of those things you are.”

Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor starrer Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar has released in theatres on March 8. Helmed by Luv Ranjan, the film also stars Shraddha Kapoor. He also has Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal set for August 2023 release.
