Kabir Singh may have been a career-defining performance of Shahid Kapoor, but it can’t beat his Aditya Kashyap (his character from Jab We Met) supremacy. The Imtiaz Ali directorial, also starring Kareena Kapoor Khan as Geet, has indeed aged like a fine wine. Thus, when Shahid was recently asked to share his thoughts on the Jab We Met sequel, the actor stated the film is his Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

“Jab We Met is my DDLJ,” says Shahid Kapoor; opens up on sequel of Imtiaz Ali directorial

It all happened during his conversation with YouTuber Siddharth Kannan. When the host asked if there is a possibility of the Jab We Met sequel, Kapoor asserted, “It really depends on the quality of that script. So if there is a script that demands a sequel and I feel it is the kind of script that you read and say ‘Man this will be better than the original, this can match up to the original’ I would do it but if I feel it’s not and I’m just trying to use the brand value of the original thing to do then I feel that ‘why are you doing it, don’t do it’.”

As the conversation progressed further, Shahid was asked to pick a pair of actors, who can revive the leads of Jab We Met. In his response, Shahid said, “I cannot comment on my role, but for Geet (Kareena Kapoor’s character), I really doubt anybody else will be able to do that kind of justice.”

Concluding his take, Shahid added, “That is the magic of Imtiaz Ali. He made a film so relevant and I don’t think a love story like that has come out after that. It is his vision that is giving us love and we should thank him for that. The film is my DDLJ, it is iconic.”

Coming to the professional front, the 42-year-old actor is currently bagging praises for his latest project, Farzi, which is also his OTT debut.
