Known popularly as ‘Pratigya’ owing to her trendsetting Star Plus show Mann Ki Awaaz Pratigya, Pooja Gor surprised her fans with her glimpses in the newly released web series Guns And Gulaabs, featuring Dulquer Salmaan, Rajkummar Rao, and Gulshan Devaiah in lead roles. The actress is seen in the role of Madhu, wife of a cop named Arjun essayed by Dulquer Salmaan. While it has not only been a never-before-seen character for Pooja but it was also a new co-star with a new experience of working with Raj and Krishna DK. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Pooja A Gor not only opened up about these experiences but also hinted at how Madhu’s character will be taken forward.
Talking about working with a South superstar like Dulquer Salmaan, especially after the grand success of his last release Sita Ramam, Pooja Gor confessed that she is a fan of the star and has loved some of his films. “I had watched some of his work before working with him on this series. I really enjoyed watching his performance in Charlie, Sita Ramam and Karwan,” Gor told Bollywood Hungama. She couldn’t stop gushing about her co-star as she continued, “I am glad that I got the opportunity to work with him and it was a great experience to act with him. I can certainly state that he is a brilliant actor and a kind-hearted human being.”
Furthermore elaborating on working with showrunners of series like The Family Man and the much-awaited Citadel, Pooja elaborated on working with Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK as she added, I had a wonderful experience working with them and their whole team. They are a delight. The vision that they have of the eventual result and the conviction on the script is awe inspiring. They give a lot of freedom to their actors and are welcoming of their suggestions as well. They ensured that the whole unit bonded really well as a family and we still often compete over a game of Wordle.”
From being a leading actress, Pooja A Gor decided to opt for a more character-driven role than playing the stereotypical heroine. “It’s true that the show has four parallel tracks going on with Arjun’s story being one of them. Madhu, being the wife, is an integral part of Arjun’s world and the story also shapes up around the experiences that Arjun has with Madhu eventually.” She added, “I would like to have a different take on the nomenclature of a lead role pertaining to the show. In a traditional sense, the lead protagonists were defined differently but in an ensemble cast with four parallel tracks and just with season 1 out for public, in my opinion, it would be too early to define protagonists and meaty characters.”
The actress, however, maintained that it is too early to talk about protagonists, hinting that there may be a lot in store for audiences in the upcoming season of Guns and Gulaabs. “I wouldn’t spill the beans on the script but I can certainly state that you will see a lot of story lines being developed across characters,” she revealed.
Further talking about exploring mediums, Pooja Gor also expressed gratitude towards television for giving her the kind of fame and stardom she experienced. “I am grateful for what TV has given me. And it will forever be an integral part of my career,” said Gor and summed up her experience of working in different mediums, by concluding, “Every medium has had its challenges and I have enjoyed working in each medium while learning and adapting to the workings of each of them. The difference is what makes it more exciting and as actors, we thrive on challenging roles.”
Guns and Gulaabs released earlier this week on August 18 and it is currently streaming on Netflix.
