Resul Pookutty is to sound in Indian cinema what Saroj Khan was to choreography. Indisputably the best sound designer of Indian cinema. The Oscar that he brought home for us for Slumdog Millionaire proves it. Now Resul is again ready to make some sound on the global platform.
Resul, together with his associate Vijay Kumar, has been nominated for the 72nd MPSE (Motion Picture Sound Editors) Golden Reel Awards of America for the sound design in Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Aadujeevitham: The Goat Life.
Responding to the honour Resul said, “Nominated along with some of the best films of this year gives me immense pleasure. For me it’s an affirmation of the whole Indian sound fraternity, who are silently working and the world’s foremost guild on Sound Designers taking a note of it and voting us to be one among the best, proves our immense untapped talent. This nomination also gives the film a much-needed boost at the Oscar run for the Best Film as the voting opens this week.”
Speaking on his associate Vijay Kumar, Resul informed, “He has an amazing story… He used to do menial jobs, like bringing chai, etc, in Shakti Samanta’a studio Aradhana. In early 2002, I met him there, found there is something in the boy, took him under my wings and trained him over the years. Today, he heads all my studio operations and been judged against the best in Hollywood. I’m so happy for him!”
