Amid many actors who have slammed the entourage culture and the inflated fees of actors, which further leads to extreme financial pressure on producers and doesn’t justify the high cost of filmmaking, is John Abraham. The actor, who is also a producer, uninhibitedly called out this culture and accused this culture of bleeding out the system and sucking them dry, pointing out the increasing budget of films.
John Abraham spoke to The Hollywood reporter, where he opened up about ‘mental’ costs involved in the fees of male leads who demand as much as Rs. 100 crores in remuneration with Rs. 2 lakh being paid to the stylists and entourage almost per day. “It’s already hurting Hindi cinema. At this point of time, we shouldn’t be paying people to act in films because we don’t justify those huge budgets. The huge fees that we get paid, and we can’t load a film with entourage costs as well. It’s ridiculous. Don’t know if actors are thinking this way or is it their agent making them think differently. I understand you are put in a bubble, but you can’t be so daft. You need to see the real world. If people are blowing sunshine from your backside, you need to wake up and smell the coffee. As an industry, we are really suffering,” he told the portal.
He went on to suggest cutting down personal costs and added, “First thing to make amends is by cutting your personal cost. When a director tells you that you aren’t worth that much, you need to take that in cognizance. We don’t have that thought yet. We compare ourselves to other actors, and we want to broadcast our fees, and that’s the worst thing to do.”
On the work front, John Abraham will be seen in the lead role in The Diplomat which is also expected to feature Sadia Khateeb in a key avatar. Directed by Shivam Nair, the film is produced by T-Series and is slated to release on March 14.
