Bollywood Hungama was the first one to break the news that Dhurandhar will be a three-hour plus affair. Later, when we wrote that its run time is 3 hours and 32 minutes, the news went viral. A section of the trade, industry and moviegoers wondered if this factor would go against the film. Now that the film has been accepted big time, we asked trade experts to comment on the run time.

Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar, confessed, “This was a crazy attempt. It’s an Aditya Dhar show and full marks to his conviction. He breathes this space and understands the army and terrorism so well. He knows his material and craft and has delivered a knockout of a commercial film.”
Trade veteran Taran Adarsh said, “A lot of people were telling me that film mein action bahut hai, violence bahut hai aur lambi bahut hai. But when I came out of the theatre, I told the Jio Studios team and Jyoti Deshpande that it didn’t seem to me that the film is too violent. The only exception was the scene of Arjun Rampal in the second half. But it was shown in the trailer and so, we were prepared for it. Otherwise, the action blocks were superb.”
He added, “I didn’t mind the length as it kept me hooked to the proceedings. I have rarely gone into raptures over any film. Dhurandhar is an exception. I am obsessed with it as it’s such a brilliant movie!”
Taran continued, “Also, the way they have recreated the gangster drama of Lyari, Karachi, is praiseworthy. I also watched some documentaries of the place after seeing the film and it was so authentically depicted. Hats off to Aditya Dhar. The production design is so perfect.”
Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal admitted, “It’s quite lengthy, which impacted the box office in the first three days. 8 out of 10 people are liking the film. Out of these 10 people, 3-4 have complained that if the film was of 3 hours or less, it would have been better. They feel the run time should have been shorter by 30 minutes. Many in the trade have also raised the question that when you have a part 2 in the pipeline, then they could have incorporated some scenes in the sequel. But I guess the director had his reasons. He was very confident that he would be able to hold the audience and he did.”
Trade analyst Atul Mohan explained, “If the film is engaging, then length is not a problem. Animal and Pushpa 2 proved it and now, Dhurandhar joins the league.”
Vishek Chauhan opined, “This is a black swan event for Hindi theatrical cinema after Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019). It’s next to impossible for such films to work. Yet, he pulled it off. Tuesday is so strong. It’ll be better than Monday in our region. I have not seen this happening in a long time. Public is loving it and it is set for a big run.”
