Mardaani 3 Box Office: Grows on Saturday, though bigger jump would have pushed it further ahead

After seeing an expected, though average opening of Rs. 4 crores, the need of the hour for Mardaani 3 was to jump well on Saturday, so that the opening weekend could get into that Rs. 18-20 crores zone. This one is a content based commercial film and it’s that Saturday jump which decides whether it would end up being a coverage affair or get into that hit zone.

Hence, had Saturday collections been Rs. 6.50-7 crores, it would have set the film even better. However, what came in was Rs. 6 crores on Saturday and while that’s also decent enough growth since it still keeps a reasonable lifetime expectation alive for the film, it also means there is wait and watch involved here. That said, the film could as well have stayed flat at Rs. 4.50-5 crores and that would have meant a lifetime of under Rs. 30 crores. Thankfully, that didn’t turn out to be the case.

One just feels that after a good trailer that set up the intrigue factor well in the familiar world of Mardaani, the follow through wasn’t as consistent and aggressive. Agreed that this genre of film depends more on word of mouth. However, with content based urban multiplex audience catering films needing a lot more push of late, and Border 2 being competition well, a more aggressive approach would have helped it score far higher than Rs. 10 crores where it stands today.

Note: All collections as per various box office sources
