Hollywood’s most formidable sibling producing duo, Andy and Barbara Muschietti, the creative force behind some of the most successful horror films of the last decade including It, It Chapter Two, and Mama are back, and this time they’re sitting firmly on the producer’s chair. Their new film, They Will Kill You, marks the first release under their freshly launched production banner, Nocturna, and it is already generating serious buzz.

Directed by Russian filmmaker Kirill Sokolov from a script he co-wrote with Alex Litvak, They Will Kill You is a horror-action-comedy that follows an ex-convict who answers a help-wanted ad to be a housekeeper at the Virgil, a mysterious New York City high-rise, not realising she is entering a community that has seen a number of disappearances over the years. The film has been described as a tonal mix of Ready or Not and The Raid.
In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Andy and Barbara Muschietti pulled back the curtain on how they discovered Sokolov, what made them fight to bring him on board, and what They Will Kill You means for their careers as producers.
It all started with a Russian indie that stopped them cold. Barbara Muschietti recalls how Sokolov first came onto their radar, “So we had been fans of Kirill for quite a while. We saw his first movie called Why Don’t You Just Die! and it was just fantastic, and done with very little cost, and you could still see the cinematic experience. So we were sent a script that Kirill and Alex [Litvak] had written. We read it and it was a fantastic exploration into genre, but also fun and propulsive. We got to meet with Kirill and decided very, very quickly that we wanted to produce this movie. There was a lot of competition, so we had to elbow out the other contenders. [LAUGHS] And we had an incredibly smooth green light process. We were able to cast this film faster than we’ve cast any movie.”
Andy Muschietti echoes that instant creative kinship with equal passion, “Immediately I connected with Kirill. I admire his filmmaking. His two first movies are terrific. And I found someone that really is a very good filmmaker and also had a vision for this project. He came in hot and based on the experience I had watching his previous movies, I believed in him. What made him the perfect director for this movie is he’s fearless, and that’s something that should not be taken for granted. I think he’s a filmmaker with great instincts and is young and full of energy and very talented.”

For the Muschiettis, They Will Kill You also represents a deliberate creative statement about the kind of filmmakers and now producers they want to be. As Barbara explains: “I think that at this point of our career, we just want to make movies that are daring and that just go a little beyond. We’ve been around the block at this point. We see a lot of movies, and we produce only the movies that we actually want to see. And this is definitely a movie that we want to see.”
From New Line Cinema and Nocturna, They Will Kill You unleashes a blood-soaked, high-octane horror-action-comedy in which a young woman must survive the night at the Virgil — a demonic cult’s mysterious and twisted death-trap of a lair — in a uniquely brazen, big-screen battle of epic kills and wickedly dark humour. The film stars Zazie Beetz, Myha’la, Paterson Joseph, Tom Felton, Heather Graham, and Patricia Arquette. Beetz plays Asia Reaves, Myha’la plays Maria Reaves (Asia’s estranged sister and one of the maids at the Virgil), Paterson Joseph plays Ray, Tom Felton plays Kevin, Heather Graham plays Sharon, and Patricia Arquette plays Lilith.
They Will Kill You is set to release via Warner Bros. Pictures on March 27, 2026.
