Rajinikanth has finally addressed the wave of speculation surrounding his reaction to Thalapathy Vijay emerging victorious in the Tamil Nadu elections and taking over as the Chief Minister of the state. During a recent media interaction, the veteran superstar clarified his stance on the election results, his friendship with M. K. Stalin, and rumours suggesting that he was unhappy about Vijay’s political success.

Speaking candidly about the criticism he faced after meeting MK Stalin following the election results, Rajinikanth explained that his relationship with the former CM goes far beyond politics. The actor told ANI, “I am holding this press meet because many criticisms are being made about me in connection with the election. If I do not respond to them, they will become accepted as the truth. After the election results, I went and met MK Stalin, and that became a subject of criticism. Our friendship is beyond politics. I felt saddened that MK Stalin was defeated in Kulathur. Rajini is not a cheap or low-standard person to speak unnecessarily about anything else.”

The actor also dismissed rumours claiming that he was upset or jealous after Vijay became the Chief Minister. Addressing the ongoing chatter directly, Rajinikanth said, “As soon as the Chief Minister won, I congratulated him. I’m not even in politics, so why would I be jealous of Vijay? Maybe if Kamal becomes the CM, I might get jealous. There is a 25-year generation gap between Vijay and me. It won’t look good if we compete”. The remark, particularly the light-hearted reference to Kamal Haasan, quickly caught attention online, with fans widely sharing clips from the press meet across social media platforms.

Rajinikanth further revealed that the news of Vijay’s political victory had come as a surprise to him. “I was extremely shocked when I heard that Vijay had become the Chief Minister. I am not in politics; it has been many days since I stepped away from politics,” he added.

The veteran actor’s clarification comes amid intense public discussion around the changing political landscape in Tamil Nadu and the increasing crossover between cinema and politics in the state. Rajinikanth, who had earlier announced his political entry before eventually stepping away due to health concerns, has often found himself at the centre of political speculation because of his massive influence among the public.

Meanwhile, Vijay’s transition from cinema to politics continues to dominate headlines, with supporters celebrating his electoral victory and his appointment as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
