Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali is leaning into romance with the release of ‘Maskara’, the latest track from his upcoming film Main Vaapas Aaunga. After the positive response to the teaser and the first song ‘Kya Kamaal Hai’, the new track shifts gears into a lighter, more playful space, celebrating the charm and mischief of young love.

Featuring Sharvari Wagh and Vedang Raina, ‘Maskara’ captures romance in its most unfiltered form—filled with teasing, hesitation, and unspoken emotions. The song explores the dynamic between their characters, Jiya and Keenu, presenting two contrasting expressions of love. While Jiya embraces her feelings with confidence and playfulness, Keenu’s emotions are softer, more introspective, and quietly intense.

Sung by Vedang Raina and Nilanjana Ghosh, the track brings together evocative lyrics by Irshad Kamil and a soulful composition by A. R. Rahman. The result is a breezy melody that reflects the timeless nature of young romance—where emotions remain unchanged even as times evolve.

Speaking about the experience, Vedang Raina said, “‘Maskara’ is incredibly close to my heart because it let me step into the character in a whole new way not just as an actor, but through music. There’s a raw innocence in what Keenu feels and singing it made those emotions even more intimate and real for me. Recording with A. R. Rahman sir was surreal his process pushes you to explore depths you didn’t know existed. And to be part of Imtiaz Ali sir’s world, where every emotion feels so lived-in, made this journey truly unforgettable.”

Nilanjana Ghosh added, “Recording this song under Rahman sir’s guidance was a truly humbling and surreal experience. His quiet brilliance and attention to every emotion and notes taught me so much in such little time. Eternally honoured and blessed. The song itself feels very pure and honest to me, almost like it has a peppy life of its own. I was simply fortunate to be present in a moment shaped by such grace, and I’m truly grateful for it.”

Main Vaapas Aaunga is set in Imtiaz Ali’s signature world of love and longing and features Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Sharvari Wagh, and Vedang Raina in key roles. Produced by Applause Entertainment along with Mohit Choudhary and Shibasish Sarkar under Window Seat Films, the film is slated to release in cinemas on June 12, 2026, with music presented by TIPS.
