The highly anticipated Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, has finally revealed its first glimpse in the recent HBO Max sizzle reel. Nestled between teasers for the chilling IT: Welcome to Derry and the highly-awaited next season of The Last of Us, this brief clip offers a taste of the chivalric adventures to come in 2025.

The footage opens with a booming introduction: Ser Duncan the Tall, declares a grizzled Peter Claffey, introducing himself as the show’s central character. Based on George R.R. Martin’s beloved “Dunk and Egg” novellas, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms delves into the world of Westeros a century before the events of the original series, and sometime after the Targaryen civil war depicted in House of the Dragon.

Season one promises to be a faithful adaptation of “The Hedge Knight”, the first of Martin’s novellas. This tale follows Dunk, a former squire who, in a moment of unorthodox opportunism, dons the armor of his recently deceased knight and declares himself one himself. With this audacious move, Dunk throws himself into a jousting tournament, setting the stage for a series of exciting and unpredictable “shenanigans,” as Martin himself might describe them.

While the ruthless power struggles of noble houses were the driving force of Game of Thrones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms promises a refreshing shift in perspective. As Ryan Condal, co-creator of House of the Dragon and an executive producer on this new spinoff, previously told Entertainment Weekly, the show will focus on the “small folk who suffer at the hands of the game of thrones as it’s played by the nobles.”

Beyond Claffey as the imposing Ser Duncan, the cast boasts a lineup of talented actors. Dexter Sol Ansell takes on the role of Egg, who, unbeknownst to most, is actually the young Aegon V Targaryen, a future king of Westeros. Finn Bennett portrays Aerion Targaryen, while Bertie Carvel tackles the role of Baelor Targaryen. Tanzyn Crawford steps into the shoes of Tanselle, while Daniel Ings takes on the part of Ser Lyonel Baratheon. And finally, the ever-menacing Sam Spruell will portray Maekar Targaryen.

The series will arrive in 2025.
