The new releases of the week began on a slow note at the box office, with none of the films managing to record a strong start in the morning shows. However, among the lot, Haunted: Echoes of the Past 3D took the lead with the best occupancy.
The horror film registered a morning occupancy of 11.5%, which was better than the other new releases. Interestingly, its morning occupancy was also higher than that of recent releases Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai and Obsession, giving it a slight edge in the opening day race.
Governor, starring Manoj Bajpayee, followed with a morning occupancy of 10.7%. Though the number is modest, it is still better than the starts recorded by Main Vaapas Aaunga and Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata. Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata recorded a morning occupancy of 6.7%, while Main Vaapas Aaunga opened at 6.11%. Both films will need strong word-of-mouth and growth through the day to put up a respectable opening-day total.
In terms of early collections, Haunted: Echoes of the Past 3D has also emerged ahead with Rs. 58 lakhs. Main Vaapas Aaunga has collected Rs. 27 lakhs, followed closely by Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata at Rs. 26 lakhs. Governor, despite better occupancy, stands at Rs. 23 lakhs.
The evening and night shows will now be crucial for all four films. While Haunted: Echoes of the Past 3D has taken the best start among the new releases, the overall picture will become clearer depending on how much momentum these films manage to gain through the day.
