Kamal Haasan’s long-awaited sequel to the Tamil cinema classic, Indian, is finally set to hit theatres on July 12, 2024. Titled Indian 2, the film has been granted a U/A certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a few minor modifications.
Indian 2 marks the return of vigilante hero Senapathy, played by the legendary Kamal Haasan. The 1996 original film remains an iconic entry in Tamil cinema, and the sequel has generated immense anticipation among fans. Directed by Shankar, known for his grand cinematic visions, Indian 2 promises to be a thrilling follow-up.
However, the board has recommended some adjustments. These primarily involve muting curse words and replacing potentially controversial terms. For instance, the phrase “Dirty Indian” will be altered. Additionally, a scene featuring a “Bribe market” label will require modification. With a runtime of three hours and four seconds, Indian 2 falls squarely within Shankar’s signature style.
Kamal Haasan leads a formidable cast in Indian 2. Joining him are Siddharth, SJ Suryah, Rakul Preet Singh, Nedumudi Venu, Vivekh, Bobby Simha, and Priya Bhavani Shankar.
Produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies, Indian 2 will be released not only in Tamil but also Hindi and Telugu, catering to a wider pan-Indian audience. Pen Studios will handle the Hindi distribution, ensuring a nationwide reach on July 19, 2024.
