The Kerala Police registered the new FIR at Karamana police station in Thiruvananthapuram against Malayalam actor Jayasurya, following allegations of sexual assault by a female colleague. The actor was called to the police station recently for an enquiry wherein he has firmly denied all accusations. Sharing his thoughts about these allegations towards multiple media, the actor addressed himself as a ‘living martyr’ as he condemned these cases, elaborating on how they impact a person’s life.

In an interaction with Manorama publication, he was quoted saying, “I completely deny the allegations. This is a fabricated case. I don’t even need anticipatory bail”. He continued, “It’s alarming that people are making such false accusations against anyone. At least I have a platform to make my case. Many others don’t do this. It could destabilise many families.”

As per a report in Mathrubhumi, Jayasurya also said, “I am facing two false accusations. A woman has been talking in various places, implying that it is me, but later, she has denied it on several instances…. I will fight this legally until the accusations against me are proven false. I believe I am a living martyr”.

For the unversed, speaking about two cases, another case of sexual assault was filed against Jayasurya, following allegations of molestation by a female actor on a movie set near Thodupuzha, Kerala, between 2012-2013.

Readers would be aware that recently Malayalam industry has been mired with sexual assault and rape allegations against several actors the Justice K Hema Committee report revealed widespread allegations of sexual harassment against various influential personas in the Malayalam film industry. The incidents have sparked a #MeToo movement in the Malayalam film industry, with several industry figures facing accusations of misconduct. The Kerala government has appointed a SIT (Special Investigations Unit) to investigate these claims and as the same unfolds, the public awaits further updates on these disturbing allegations.
