Mithun Chakraborty was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest accolade in Indian cinema, at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The 70th National Awards were presented by President Droupadi Murmu. At 74, Mithun is renowned for his remarkable performances in films such as Agneepath and Mujhe Insaaf Chahiye, among others. After this recognition, his longtime friend and fellow actor Dharmendra shared a heartfelt congratulatory message on social media, expressing his happiness over Mithun’s achievement.
Dharmendra posted a picture with Mithun Chakraborty to congratulate him on receiving the esteemed Dadasaheb Phalke Award. He conveyed his admiration and requested Mithun to send his love to the family.
Dharmendra also noted that even though he is currently outside India, he plans to return soon to give Mithun a big hug in person.

Before the ceremony, On the red carpet the actor said, “What can I say? This is such a great honor—I can only thank God. The struggles I’ve endured have been rewarded by God. I’m still trying to process it.”
Chakraborty also spoke about his experiences of being trolled and disrespected in the industry because of his dark skin. He remembered being told that there was no place for dark-skinned people in film, mentioning that he faced considerable humiliation throughout his career.
Mithun revealed that he used to complain to God about his appearance. However, he eventually decided to look past his skin color and focus on his dancing skills.
Regarded as India’s original ‘Disco Dancer,’ the veteran actor stated that he chose to dance to draw attention to his feet instead of his face or complexion. He observed that as he showcased his dance moves in films, audiences began to overlook his skin color.
Previous recipients of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award include notable figures like Amitabh Bachchan, Waheeda Rehman, Rekha, Asha Parekh, and Rajinikanth. Earlier this year, Mithun Chakraborty was also awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honor.
