Anupam Kher recently shared a surprising anecdote about being replaced in the iconic 1987 film Mr. India, crediting his close friend Anil Kapoor and producer Boney Kapoor for the decision. In a lighthearted video with stepson Sikandar Kher, the veteran actor recounted the behind-the-scenes drama while acknowledging Amrish Puri’s legendary portrayal of Mogambo.
Sikandar Kher posted a fun Instagram video capturing Anupam post-dental surgery, filled with playful threats and mock drama. Anupam warned Sikandar, “Zyada zor se laga na, ulte haath ka marunga, naak pe teri, naak tod dunga,” before reciting lines from his film Karma. Despite Anupam’s plea, “You’re not going to post this. It’s a personal thing between us,” the clip went viral, delighting fans with their bond.
During the banter, Anupam disclosed he was initially cast as the villain Mogambo but got removed without early notice. He stated, “Javed saab threw me out of Mr India. Not Javed saab, it was Anil Kapoor, who is my best friend, and Boney Kapoor too. They didn’t tell me until the end.” Anupam humbly added that he couldn’t have played it “as brilliantly as Amrish Puri,” whose “Mogambo khush hua” became Bollywood legend after replacing him post-screen test.

Anupam married Kirron Kher in 1985, embracing four-year-old Sikandar as family despite no biological children together. He also mentioned a deleted cameo by Zoya Akhtar.
