On the occasion of Army Day on January 15, actor and former beauty queen Celina Jaitly paid a poignant tribute to her brother, Major (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, who has been detained in Abu Dhabi for more than 14 months, in a heartfelt social media message that resonated with many online.

Taking to Instagram, Celina reflected on the unseen sacrifices made by soldiers’ families, emphasising that their service often goes unrecognised. She opened her post with an emotion-laden line: “#armyday Families serve too, just without medals.”
The actress shared a throwback image from a visit to her brother’s unit in the valley, recalling how one of his fellow officers, who was martyred after that mission, placed his para beret on her head. “He smiled & said, ‘Our families stand behind us & pay an equal price of bravery while we stand at the front,’” she wrote, underlining the emotional weight carried by those waiting at home.
Celina also posted a letter that Vikrant wrote in 2000, soon after joining the armed forces. Describing her brother as a “fourth-generation soldier” born with “ammunition boots on his feet,” she noted how he joined the Indian Army through a technical entry and went on to serve with the elite 3 Para SF, earning commendation during his career. “This letter reminds me that a soldier is forged long before the uniform, long before the medal, & long before the battlefield,” she wrote, expressing the profound pride and pain in equal measure.
The legal battle surrounding Major Jaitly’s detention continues to unfold. The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Central government, asking it to file a status report within four weeks and to appoint a nodal officer to facilitate communication and assistance for him, including legal and medical support. His counsel, Advocate Raghav Kacker, said such steps could “help secure his release” and strengthen ties between India and the UAE.
In her message, Celina also recalled personal memories — the family home, their parents, and the sacrifices that have shaped their family’s legacy.

The situation has drawn public attention and diplomatic interest, with India’s external affairs authorities reportedly providing all possible assistance. While specific details of the charges against Major Jaitly have not been made public, authorities cited “national security concerns” surrounding his detention, and his family has suggested possible mistaken identity or other external factors.
