Sharvari Wagh, recently celebrated for her role in the hit horror-comedy film Munjya, has a fascinating history in the film industry. Before her breakout role in Bunty Aur Babli 2, Sharvari worked behind the scenes as an assistant director on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic Bajirao Mastani. In an interview with News18, Sharvari reflected on her invaluable experience working under the renowned filmmaker and how it shaped her career.

Learning from a master Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Describing her time on the set of Bajirao Mastani, Sharvari called it “an ultimate masterclass” in filmmaking. She assisted during the second half of the film and shared how working closely with Bhansali enriched her understanding of the craft. “We’ve had so much fun during the shoot for Bajirao Mastani. I was under the guidance of Sanjay Sir when I assisted in the second half of the film. It was like attending the ultimate masterclass in filmmaking,” Sharvari recounted, highlighting the rigorous yet rewarding environment on set.

Bonding with Sharmin Segal

During her stint as an assistant director, Sharvari formed a close bond with Sharmin Segal, who has since gained fame for her role in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Although they worked in different units—Sharvari in the action unit and Sharmin in the sand-me unit—they often dreamt of one day stepping in front of the camera. “We’d exchange knowing glances during lunch breaks, both dreaming of facing the camera someday. Now, seeing her shine in Heeramandi, I couldn’t be happier. It’s like watching your best friend conquer the world,” Sharvari shared, expressing her joy for Sharmin’s success.

Recent projects and accolades

Sharvari’s recent projects include a cameo in Netflix’s Maharaj, which features Aamir Khan’s son, Junaid Khan. Despite her brief screen time, Sharvari has been praised for her impactful performance. “I’m really thrilled to read that people are calling me a big ‘surprise factor’ of Maharaj. As an actor, I want to make an impact in every role and in every film that I work on. So, I will happily and humbly accept all the compliments of being a ‘surprise factor’ in a film!” she said, delighted by the positive feedback.

Future endeavours

Looking ahead, Sharvari Wagh’s career continues to soar. She is set to appear in Vedaa, directed by Nikkhil Advani, and a highly anticipated YRF spy universe film alongside Alia Bhatt. As she transitions from supporting roles to leading lady, Sharvari remains committed to making a significant impact in the industry, embodying the dreams she once shared with her colleague and friend, Sharmin Segal.
